Welcome to Dhyandemic
Wait, what?
Five years writing Gyandemic, two books, and over 150 science articles later... you might wonder why start something new? Perhaps it's not so much new as returning – back to the personal blogging I used to (but who blogs these days anyway?).
Look, you can only write about microbiomes and climate change for so long before your soul demands you dive into Tagore's songs and looking pensively into clouds in a distance.
Here in Dhyandemic (yes rhymes with Gyandemic– what can I say, I like my pandemic puns), I'll write about mortality and meaning. Why now? Maybe I’m bored. Maybe because it’s the start of a new year. Maybe my midlife crisis is having a midlife crisis and after years of explaining how things work, it's time to ask why they work at all.
Either way, expect fewer equations and more emotions (though knowing me, some science will inevitably sneak in).
This newsletter will be more personal, more reflective. Some posts might be short meditations; others, longer explorations of ideas that refuse to be rushed– like a good biryani, some thoughts need time to develop their full flavor. There's something useful about a space for collective reflection, especially in times that feel like a WhatsApp group chat.
First post coming soon. Unless I get distracted by microbiomes again.
With gratitude,
Anirban
